2006 Camp Sessions

Summer Sampler
Ages 7-11
Summer Sampler is a special session for youth to try out overnight camp for the first time! During this two-night experience, campers will have the opportunity to enjoy cabin life in the great outdoors along with many traditional camp activities. This is a wonderful introduction to the unique experience that overnight camp provides!

3SS July 1-3

Traditional Camp
Ages 8-13
Join us for traditional summer camp where each day is filled with adventure in learning new skills or revisiting old favorites! Camp activities include swimming, archery, arts and crafts, all camp games and much more! Cabin groups will have opportunities to experience a cookout or an overnight in tents. Each day ends with a campfire at sunset complete with camp songs, storytelling and reflection of the day’s events.

Naniboujou Session
If one week of camp isn’t enough adventure, try two! This session allows campers to stay at camp between sessions 7 and 8. In addition to all the great traditional camp activities you sign up for, during the weekend there are special activities such as bowling, theme activities, movie nights, and extra events to enjoy with the camp counselors!

Fishing Camp
Ages 8-13
Don't let this camp be the "one that got away!" Lake Independence provides a great opportunity to catch several different species of fish. Young anglers will learn the basics of fishing from how to tie a perfect knot, to how to handle the fish once it's landed. The highlight of Fishing Camp is the half-day trip to Mille Lacs Lake. Campers will board the half-day boat charter to attempt to catch the elusive "big one!" In addition to fishing, campers will also participate in all other traditional camp activities.
*Bait, rods and tackle are provided by Ihduhapi through a partnership with Rapaal, however campers may bring their own equipment.

Horse Camp
Ages 8-13
Our Horse Camp is perfect for beginner riders! Campers learn about basic riding techniques such as safety while mounting and dismounting, controlling the horse at walking and trotting paces, plus horse care. Weather permitting, campers will spend one achievement time each day at the ranch for riding instruction. The remainder of the day is spent enjoying traditional camp activities outlined in the daily camp schedule.

Sailing Camp
Ages 9-13
Sailing Camp is a great waterfront adventure program for campers who want to learn about sailing and developing sailing skills! This program focuses on basic sailing techniques, equipment care and mastering the knots that are necessary for every sailor to know. Campers will spend one achievement time each day at sailing instruction both on and off the water. The remainder of the day is spent enjoying traditional camp activities outlined in the daily camp schedule.

Teen Extreme
Ages 12-13
Our Teen Extreme is a fast-paced, fun adventure program combining a variety of exciting outdoor excursions! Each group will stay at Camp Ihduhapi the first and last nights, and at YMCA Camp Icaghowan between the thrills of white water rafting down the St. Louis River, rock climbing the beautiful cliffs of Taylor’s Falls, and enjoying the water park at Wild Mountain. (Groups are single gender.)

Leadership Development Program
Campers will learn life-long leadership skills built upon the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our Leadership Development Programs develop the whole person–spirit, mind and body– through a variety of activities, projects and team-building exercises.

Explorers
For campers entering 8th grade
This 6-day program introduces youth for the first time to the wonderful adventures of a river trip! The program starts with campers getting to know each other and practicing canoeing skills in camp. The next three days are spent paddling down a selected river where groups cook their own meals and sleep in tents. This is a great trip for campers to learn outdoor skills and team building during their explorations! Groups are single gender.

Voyagers
Fpr campers entering 9th grade
This an exciting 11-13 day program for youth who want to experience the challenge of living outdoors and working as part of a team! The first four days are spent at camp focusing on group dynamics and team building. Groups then move to Camp Menogyn and spend the next five days on either a backpacking trail expedition or a canoe river trip with two experienced counselors. Groups are single gender.

Junior Leaders
For campers entering 10th grade
This is an 11-13 day leadership immersion program for teen campers who would like to further develop their leadership and camping skills in the great outdoors! The first four days are spent at camp focusing on leadership training and service learning. The next six days are spent on a canoeing adventure in northern Wisconsin. Campers are involved in planning their daily schedule including the trip route and meals with the guidance of our camp counselors. Groups are co-ed.

Counselors in Training
Entering 11th grade
This three-week program is for teens who would like to develop mentoring and leadership opportunities as camp counselors! CIT builds counseling skills by working together on team building and leadership skills necessary in guiding younger campers. Activities start on site at camp and then move to Camp Menogyn (located in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness) where they spend five days paddling the lakes with a trained Menogyn wilderness guide. The last week is spent back at Camp Ihduhapi applying their new skills by shadowing experienced counselors in a cabin of younger campers. Groups are Co-ed.

CITs will need to be home during the second weekend of the three-week session.
